Outer Memphis and Beyond Outside of Memphis’ I-240 loop to the due east of the city lies the “bedroom” community of Cordova, most of which resides within Memphis’ city limits. A drive east along Poplar or out on Hwy 385 takes you into the thriving towns of Germantown and Collierville. Residents of these communities are proud of their Shelby Farms, a crown jewel of an urban park of over 4000 acres, which features hiking, bike, and horse trails, diverse wildlife, an 18-hole golf course, and the end-point of the Shelby Farms Greenline, an urban trail that runs all the way to Midtown, Memphis. Beyond these communities, a drive northeast along Tennessee’s I-40 takes you to the quiet and rural towns of Lakeland and Arlington.
